What Read AI does well
Read AI does the standard notetaker job competently. Connect your calendar and its assistant joins your Zoom, Teams or Google Meet calls, records them, and produces a meeting report: a summary, topics, action items, key questions and a transcript broken out by speaker. It can join even when the person holding the license is not in the meeting, which is useful if you are double booked and still want the notes.
Where it stands apart is measurement. Read AI adds listener sentiment and engagement to the transcript and gives each user a personal coaching report on talking speed, filler words, bias and charisma. The auto-join problem, and how to set it up properly
The most common complaint about Read AI is that it turns up in meetings nobody invited it to. Read AI's own help center has an article titled "How Did Read AI Get on My Account (and How to Remove It)", which tells you how often the question comes up. The mechanism is simple. When a user shares a meeting report, other attendees receive an invitation to sign up to view it. People who click through often connect their calendar during a short onboarding flow, pick the default join setting without reading it, and Read AI then starts joining their meetings and sending reports under their name.
None of that is hidden, and it is fixable in a few minutes, but it has to be done before a rollout, not after a client asks why a bot recorded their call. In Account Settings, under Meeting Recording and Auto-Join Preferences, each user chooses whether Read joins all meetings or only the ones they host, and whether it joins internal and external meetings or internal meetings only. The internal-only option works only when the account uses a work email domain, not a Gmail address. Report sharing is set separately.
One setting does not protect you: switching Read off on your own account does not stop another attendee's Read from joining. Read AI says so plainly in its documentation. How much does Read AI cost?

The plan you actually need is usually one step up from the one you would pick. Pro does not include audio or video playback; you only get the recording on Enterprise. Meetings longer than four hours need Enterprise+. And the security features an IT or compliance team will ask for, SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, domain capture, retention policies and HIPAA, are all Enterprise+ only, so a regulated five-person team starts at about $1,785 a year.
Three billing rules are worth knowing before you buy. Every license in a Workspace must be on the same plan, so you cannot put managers on Enterprise and everyone else on Pro. Is Read AI worth it?
Read AI is worth it if you want meeting analytics as well as notes: engagement scoring, speaker coaching and search across meetings, email and messages. At $15 a user a month billed annually, Pro is fairly priced for that. It is poor value if you only need a transcript, where cheaper notetakers exist, or if the real bottleneck is acting on the notes afterward.

Why does Read AI join my meetings?
Read AI joins because auto-join is turned on in your account, usually from onboarding after you signed up to view a report someone shared. Go to Account Settings, Meeting Recording, Auto-Join Preferences and choose hosted meetings only, internal meetings only, or off. Another attendee's Read can still join if their own account allows it.
Is Read AI safe to use?
Read AI is a legitimate company, and its documentation says it takes no action without the account owner's permission. The risk is configuration: default auto-join and report sharing can record and distribute calls more widely than a team intended. Set join and sharing rules before rollout, and use Enterprise+ if you need SSO, retention policies or HIPAA.
Does Read AI record video?
Read AI captures the meeting on every plan, but audio and video playback, including video highlights, is only available on the Enterprise and Enterprise+ plans. Free and Pro users get the transcript, summary, action items and metrics without the recording. Upgrading reprocesses your last 30 days of reports to apply the new plan.
